Is alleged feces flinger the same man accused of weekend sex assaults?

· Toronto Sun

A 30-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting two women at opposite ends of the city in less than 24 hours over the weekend.

But while Toronto cops routinely say when an accused is “known to police,” they refused to confirm whether Samuel Opoku is the same man who made headlines in 2019 for allegedly hurling buckets of liquefied fecal matter on unsuspecting victims in the city.

“We cannot confirm if an individual has a criminal history with police,” a police spokesperson said Wednesday.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, police announced an arrest was made in two weekend sex attacks that allegedly occurred in Riverdale and High Park.

In the first incident, police said an “unknown” man approached a group of women as they were walking on a sidewalk in the city’s east end near Dundas St. E. and De Grassi St. – east of Broadview Ave. – around 8:10 p.m.

The man allegedly “took hold of the victim’s forearm with one hand and made verbal sexual advances” before sexually assaulting her and running off.

The woman was not physically injured.

Second woman allegedly sexually assaulted next day

Police said a second woman was sexually assaulted around 5:30 p.m. the next day, on Sunday, in the city’s west end – near Dundas St. W. and Bloor St. W.

“It is alleged that the adult female victim was in a commercial building,” police said. “The unknown male suspect followed the victim into an office space.”

Police alleged the stranger approached the victim from behind, sexually assaulted her and took off. She was also not physically hurt.

Investigators released suspect images earlier on Tuesday, urging anyone who knew the man’s identity or whereabouts to come forward.

Police now say a suspect was identified, located and arrested later that same day.

Opoku, 30, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent exposure.

Man with same name allegedly dumped feces on people in 2019

Over four days in late November 2019, a man with the same name and age was accused of hurling feces at various people for no apparent reason.

On Nov. 22, 2019, the man allegedly entered the Robarts Library at 130 St. George St., on the University of Toronto campus, and poured a bucket of feces over a woman and a child sitting at a table.

Two days later, he allegedly walked into Scott Library at 4700 Keele St., on the York University campus, and splashed feces on a woman and a man.

The next day, he allegedly dumped a bucket of fecal matter on a woman near College and McCaul Sts.

Accused feces flinger released on bail in 2019

A man named Samuel Opoku was ultimately identified as a suspect and arrested. He was charged with five counts of assault with a weapon and five counts of mischief interfering with property.

When he was released on bail after an appearance in mental-health court on Dec. 18, 2019, his lawyer Jordan Weisz maintained he was confident his client understood his bail conditions and that the public would be protected by those conditions.

“We’re glad he’s at Old City Hall courts where those suffering with mental illness can go to a specialized court where those issues are dealt with appropriately,” Weisz said at the time.

“Lawyers are members of the public, too, and we want our streets to be safe. If he violates his bail, he won’t get bail again.”

The final outcome of those charges is unknown.

Anyone with information regarding the sex assault investigation is urged to call the sex crimes unit at 416-808-7474 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
