Tamil Nadu: CM Vijay’s astrologer appointed as his officer on special duty

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Tuesday appointed his astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vetrivel as his Officer on Special Duty (Political), ANI reported.

An order to this effect was issued by the Public Department Secretariat.
Vettrivel had been previously associated with former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. However, the two reportedly parted ways in 2014 after the astrologer got a prediction wrong about the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader’s imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case, The Indian Express reported.
Apart from Jayalalithaa, Vettrivel has advised several other political leaders across multiple parties, including from the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, according to The Print.
Following Vettrivel’s appointment on Tuesday as Vijay’s Officer on Special Duty (Political), Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil remarked: “Beats me. Why would an astrologer require an OSD position?? Can anyone explain?”

The appointment comes days after the actor-politician’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on May 4 emerged as the single-largest party on its electoral debut, winning 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly and defeating the incumbent Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government.
