The 27-year-old agreed a permanent deal until the end of the season in February, having initially joined the Stags on loan from Championship side Birmingham City the previous September.

In his time with Mansfield, Roberts scored four goals in 19 appearances as the club finished 10th in the table.

"His influence when he was on the pitch was there for everybody to see and it's brilliant that he wants to stay and be a part of next season," Stags boss Nigel Clough said.

"He always maintained that he would only sign for one year, regardless of the club he would be at, and we're very pleased that he'll be spending the next 12 months with us."

Having released midfielder Aaron Lewis and strikers Victor Adeboyejo and Dom Dwyer, Mansfield remain in talks with Lucas Akins, Jordan Bowery, Elliott Hewitt, George Maris, Stephen McLaughlin and Anthony Nunez over new deals.
