Man charged with series of Peel break-ins; 4 charged in firearms probe

A man alleged to be responsible for a series of break-and-enter offences across Peel has been charged.

Peel Regional Police said, on March 26, officers initiated an investigation, named Project NOMAD, in connection with a series of break-ins targeting homes.
It’s alleged the accused would enter during the evening hours and focused on stealing jewelry and currency from upstairs bedrooms.
On Thursday, police, along with Canada Border Services Agency, were able to identify and locate the accused in a residence near Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga.
In addition, approximately $31,000 in currency was seized, along with approximately $36,000 worth of jewelry.
Police said they were able to identify and return the recovered and seized property to the rightful owners.
Gerard Barrett, 39, was arrested and charged with four counts each of break and enter and commit indictable offence and possession of property obtained by crime, and one count each of disguise with intent and possession of break-in instruments.

FIREARMS CHARGES LAID
Police says three men and a teenager from Toronto have been arrested and charged in a firearms possession investigation in North York.
Toronto Police say, on Wednesday around 9:10 p.m., officers were patrolling the Don Mills and York Mills Rds. area when they saw a black Honda Accord that had allegedly been involved in a gas theft earlier in the day.
Cops said the officers initiated a vehicle stop. Four males then fled the vehicle and officers began a foot chase before capturing the foursome and taking them into custody.

At the time of the arrests, it’s alleged officers recovered two loaded handguns.
Three men, 22, 20 and 19 years old, were charged with 12 firearm-related offences and one for possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
The 19-year-old man is also accused of failing to comply with a release order.
A 14-year-old boy was charged with 14 firearm-related offences and one count each of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, possession of automobile master key, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order.
