“500” Chelsea fan protest “felt bigger both in its numbers and its significance”

Apparently there was around 500 Chelsea fans who attended the protest march yesterday before the Manchester United game.

This was a number plucked out by the Met Police apparently, although there are some major question marks over that from people who were actually there, saying it felt much more than that.

Strasbourg fans joined in with the march as well, flying over from France to protest against the joint owners of both clubs, BlueCo.

The message was clear, they want these owners gone and there is no way back for them amongst the majority of the fan base, and the protestors were there in very strong and significant numbers. This should hit BlueCo square in the face.

Gill on the protest

The Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill was at the protest, and he wrote:

“Before kick-off, there was a protest against their BlueCo ownership, involving both Chelsea fans and Strasbourg supporters who had flown in from France to join in. One Metropolitan Police officer estimated 500 in attendance, though it felt bigger, both in its numbers and its significance.

“Despite Chelsea’s custodians insisting they are ready to tweak their youthful recruitment strategy – co-owner Behdad Eghbali said so at a conference in Los Angeles this week – they have lost the trust of this fanbase. ‘F*** off Eghbali’ was another chant here at Stamford Bridge.”
