A popular fast-food restaurant in Brantford has been ordered to close its doors immediately for “health hazards.”

Mary Brown’s Chicken & Taters, located at 175 Lynden Rd., was shut down by health inspectors on Monday, according to an inspection report from Grand Erie Public Health .

There were two critical issues the restaurant was not in compliance with, the first being providing hot and cold running water under pressure where food is processed, prepared, manufactured, or where utensils are cleaned, the agency reported, which is considered an “immediate health hazard.”

The restaurant’s refrigeration unit is also required to be immediately adjusted or repaired as foods were not being held at safe temperatures.

“Do not store any hazardous foods in the unit until it is able to maintain hazardous foods at 4°C (40°F) or less,” inspectors advised.

Other important yet “non-critical” infractions include not providing hot and cold running water for hand-washing in the food preparation area as well as proper maintenance of the sanitary facilities, notably there not being a constant supply of hot and cold running water available.

Public Health also noted that the shop was not in compliance of “manual dishwashing: wash, rinse, sanitize technique.”

Mary Brown’s was served with a closure order, complete with a disclosure sign at its entrance noting details of why “this premise is closed.”

For those in Brantford who have a real hankering for Mary Brown’s chicken, the next closest locations are in Ancaster, Cambridge and Hamilton and Kitchener.

It is unclear when the Brantford location will reopen.

The Toronto Sun reached out to Grand Erie Public Health and Mary Brown’s but did not hear back in time for publication.
