Baltimore Orioles’ manager Craig Albernaz is hit in face by foul ball

In what is becoming an increasingly odd start to the MLB season for the 2026 Baltimore Orioles, manager Craig Albernaz was drilled in the cheek by a foul ball off of Jeremiah Jackson’s bat.

Albernaz walked down the steps of the dugout to be examined by onsite medical personnel. Upon his return, Albernaz’s wife Genevieve tweeted: “And we’re back in the dugout. This guy (laugh emoji)”

Albernaz did not conduct the postgame press conference out of an abundance of caution. He will be getting further testing on Tuesday.

Jackson made up for it in a big way

Jackson hits homeruns in his next two at bats. The first was a grand slam when the Orioles were down 7-1. The second was an insurance homerun to help seal the biggest come from behind win for the Orioles in four years.

He had five RBIs in the 9-7 win.

Orioles injuries are mounting

Injuries and odd events have marked the start of the season. Zac Eflin threw seven strikeouts in his first outing before leaving the game and ultimately having season-ending elbow surgery.

Adley Rutschman and Ryan Mountcastle suffered ankle injuries within 24 hours of each other. Mountcastle’s is a broken bone.

Prior to the season, Jordan Westburg and Jackson Holliday suffered injuries.

Relief pitcher Dietrik Enns has a foot infection that required a hospital visit while the team was in Pittsburgh.

Tyler O’Neill is dealing with a concussion in a series of events that started with a virus, dehydration, passing out, and hitting his head.

12 Orioles are on the IL, and hopefully Albernaz does not need to be added.
