Competition should always be welcomed at the quarterback position if a franchise has a clear idea of who the starting signal-caller will be.

On Monday, the New York Giantssigned a 33-year-old former San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams quarterback to compete with the organization’s 2025 first-round pick, Jaxson Dart.

“The New York Giants have signed quarterback Brandon Allen,” the franchise announced. “Allen, 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds, was originally a sixth-round selection (No. 201 overall) by Jacksonville in 2016.”

“He has appeared in 19 games with 10 starts in his career and has spent time with the Jaguars (2016-17), Rams (2017-19), Broncos (2019-20), Bengals (2020-23), 49ers (2023-25), and Titans (2025).”
“He has completed 183 of 323 passes (56.7 percent) for 1,882 yards with 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions.”

Considering Allen has never entered a season as an organization’s No. 1 QB, it’s safe to assume things won’t be any different in 2026-27. Allen sat behind Blake Bortles and Chad Henne in Jacksonville, Jared Goff and Sean Mannion in Los Angeles, Joe Flacco in Denver, Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, Brock Burdy in San Francisco, and Cam Ward in Tennessee.

However, it’s nice for the Giants to know that if Dart becomes inactive for whatever reason during the upcoming campaign, they have an experienced signal-caller who can fill in for a brief period.
