Mumbai Weather Update: Temperature Drops Below Normal Amid Westerly Winds; IMD Forecasts Relief For 2-3 Days

Mumbai, April 2: After days of extreme heat, Mumbai is witnessing a fall in maximum temperature, giving temporary relief from the hot summer. On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at the Colaba observatory were 31.8°C and 23.1°C, both below normal.

Although Mumbai and its metropolitan region did not witness rainfall as forecast, the rainfall-like weather condition and the westerly winds have resulted in partially cloudy skies and a fall in temperature.
Westerly disturbances bring temperature dip
"The state is witnessing westerly wind disturbances. It has resulted in thunderstorms, hail, and rainfall in the interiors, including Pune and neighbouring areas. The maximum temperature in Mumbai has dropped because of it. The weather condition will continue for the next 2–3 days, before the mercury gradually rises," said Sushma Nair, scientist from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai.
Clear skies forecast over next 48 hours
As per the local weather forecast for the next 48 hours for Mumbai City and Suburbs, the skies will be mainly clear, and the maximum and minimum temperatures will be 33°C and 24°C, respectively.
Orange alert for unseasonal rains in Maharashtra
Meanwhile, several districts of Maharashtra are receiving unseasonal rains. The IMD has sounded an Orange Alert for several districts for the next couple of days for “thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, rainfall, hail, and gusty winds (50–60 kmph).” The districts include Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Beed, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and others.
Air quality improves amid weather change
The change in weather conditions in Mumbai has also given some relief from air and dust pollution, resulting in an improved air quality index (AQI). As per the Central Pollution Control Board data, the overall AQI of Mumbai on Thursday was 59, which falls under the 'satisfactory' level.
