The Wildcats lost 13-3 at UCF in eight innings on Saturday, ensuring they’ll head into Sunday with a third series loss in as many tries in Big 12 play. They entered the final game of the previous two series with a chance to take them before losing.
UCF (17-8, 7-1 Big 12) cranked out 17 hits against Arizona pitching, knocking Smith Bailey out after four innings. The sophomore right-hander allowed four runs and nine hits, needing 90 pitches.
The Knights put the game away with three runs in the 6th and then scored six times in the 8th to enact the mercy rule.
Arizona (9-17, 2-6) finished with only three hits, one of those a solo home run by Andrew Cain, which pleased the many ex-UA players in attendance.
