Max Fried didn't miss a beat.
After a brilliant first season with the New York Yankees, Fried got the ball to start on Opening Day on Wednesday night in San Francisco against the Giants. And he was dealing.
It didn't necessarily look like that to start the game. He walked the leadoff hitter, Luis Arraez, on four pitches. Then a weakly hit single by Rafael Devers put runners on the corners in the first inning.
Fried escaped that, though, and didn't deal with much more danger after that.

In the end, Fried didn't give up a run. He became the third left-handed pitcher in Yankees history to have an outing without allowing a run on Opening Day.
The others were Marius Russo in 1941 and Ron Guidry in 1980, according to NY Yankees Stats.

And when he wakes up on Thursday, his ERA will be 0.00 for the season.
It doesn't get much better than that after an Opening Day start.
