Talented LSU G plans to enter portal after one season with program

· Yahoo Sports

The LSU Tigers disappointed during the 2025-26 season, finishing with just 15 overall wins and three victories in SEC play. The road forward won't be any easier, as guard Dedan Thomas Jr., the team's second-leading scorer, plans to enter the transfer portal, per On3's Joe Tipton.

Thomas's tenure with the program ends after just one season, as he averaged 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game on 45.9% from the field and 30.2% from 3-point range. His assists mark would've tied for the SEC-lead, but Thomas suffered a foot injury that caused him to miss 16 games including the final month and a half of the season.

Without their leading assist man, the Tigers finished the season on a 2-10 skid culminating in a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in the 1st round of the SEC tournament.

The 6-foot-1, 178-pound guard began his career at UNLV, as he's a native of Las Vegas. He started all 34 games as a true freshman, averaging 13.6 points and 5.1 assists. He took another step forward during the 2024-25 season, scoring 15.6 points.

From there, Thomas decided to take his talents to Baton Rouge and test himself in the SEC, where he excelled despite playing in just half the season for the Tigers.

He'll now look for a new home, where, by NCAA rules, he'll have one season of eligibility remaining though he can apply for a medical redshirt due to the foot injury suffered last season.
