A position change is never easy, and Bo Bichette is learning that firsthand as he adjusts to a new defensive role with the New York Mets. As all Mets fans know, this is a running thing around the league, and it’s a bit overboard.

Bichette, who has spent his career playing shortstop, has been working at third base as the Mets look to get his bat in the lineup. The position change has come with its share of challenges, something the veteran infielder spoke about while speaking to reporters.

“Third base is a challenge, for sure,’’ Bichette said, per Dan Martin of the New York Post. “I’m learning something new, but I have a good understanding of the growing pains, but I also understand I have the ability to play the position.”

Shortstop and third base share some similarities, but the differences at third can be very tough to navigate. For someone who wasn’t exactly a good infielder at shortstop, it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts at third in the short and long-term.

For the Mets, the idea of signing Bichette was to land one of the better-hitting infielders in baseball. If he comes in and swings it at the level he can, I think it’s fair to say that fans can deal with some problems at third base.
