According to Todd Lewis of The Golf Channel, McIlroy "tweaked something" while in the gym before he headed to his warmup.

Lewis added that McIlroy felt he could finish the tournament, but withdrew as a precaution ahead of defending his title at the Players Championship next week.

McIlroy, the No. 2 ranked player in the world, was set to tee off at 12:55 p.m. ET with Ryan Fox. He opened the tournament shooting an even par 72 on Thursday before moving up the leaderboard on Friday with a minus-4.
